Oisin Cooney and Luke O’Donnell were part of the Republic of Ireland Under-17s squad that secured their progress to the elite round of Euro '24 qualification with a scoreless draw against table-toppers Switzerland at Turners Cross on Tuesday afternoon.

Buncrana’s O’Donnell, on the books at Derry City, was a second-half substitute while young Finn Harps 'keeper Cooney, who came up through the ranks at Clonmany Shamrocks, was an unused replacement. The draw for the next phase of the tournament is in December 2023, and Ireland will be third seeds.
