John Francis Doogan recruits ex-Finn Harps trio for Oscar Traynor role

John Francis Doogan has recruited three former Finn Harps players to his backroom team having been named as the new manager of the Donegal League’s Oscar Traynor team.

The Keadue Rovers clubman was officially appointed on Tuesday morning.

Doogan has confirmed James Doherty, Mark Forker and Christy Connaghan as his assistants.

Doherty plays with his native Kilmacrennan Celtic while Forker plays with Keadue and Connaghan has rejoined Letterkenny Rovers following a spell at Central Park.

Doogan was interviewed by Donegal League committee members on Monday night at The Diamond Park.

The Donegal League said: “One of the deciding factors of his appointment was the make-up of his back-room staff who, coupled with his coaching knowledge, would seem to have all the ingredients of a successful leadership.

“Final details of this year's competition have not yet been decided however it is thought that the Donegal Junior League will be in a three-team group with the Inishowen Football League and the Monaghan/Cavan League.”

The Donegal League were Oscar Traynor Cup winners in 1983. In recent years, they were quarter-finalists in 2019 and semi-finalists in 2016.
