Turners Cross and, inset, Success Edogun in action against Cork City
Finn Harps’ League of Ireland Firat Division clash away to Cork City on April 26 will need to find a new venue with the news that the Munster Football Association has closed Turner's Cross.
The venue will remain out of action for the foreseeable future after the playing surface suffered 'extensive damage' during last Friday's First Division game between Cork City and Cobh Ramblers.
Virgin Media Park is an option, Cork City played there three times in the 1990s and there was a possibility of a move there in 2021 while the club talked to the Munster Football Association about rent at Turner’s Cross Cross.
The closure was announced in a statement released on Monday evening, which reads: "Following a meeting of the Munster Football Association Executive it has been decided that Turners Cross will be closed indefinitely.
"Unfortunately we have had to make this decision in conjunction with and on the advice of our pitch contractors following the League of Ireland fixture that took place on Friday night last where extensive areas of the pitch have been severely damaged.
"We wish to ensure all affected parties that while there is a period of extensive works needed we endeavour to have the Turners Cross Pitch restored and playable as soon as possible."
Virgin Media Park is an alternative option already being discussed. Cork City played there three times in the 1990s and there was a possibility of a move there in 2021 while the club talked to the Munster Football Association about rent at Turner’s Cross Cross.
