Michael Harris who scored a dramatic winner

Michael Harris hit a dramatic winner to fire Institute into the Irish League promotion-relegation play-off.

The Convoy man, recruited last summer from Finn Harps, struck in the 91st minute as 'Stute defeated Portadown.

Harris riffled to the bottom corner in added time at Shamrock Park having been teed up by a pass from St Johnston's Shane McGinty.

Harris's late heroics saw Kevin Deery's men overcome Portadown, the NIFL Championship winners who were presented with the silverware on the night, and roar into the play-off spot ahead of Annagh United and Bangor.

Institute were 11th in the Championship last season and in a relegation dog fight, but now they are two legs from promotion.

Ballymena United stand in their way with 'Stute having home advantage at the Brandywell on Tuesday before the second leg takes them to the Showgrounds on Friday.

Fintan Doherty, who came through the ranks at Bonagee United before moving to Derry City, was in goal for 'Stute on Friday night while McGinty, Evan Tweed and BJ Banda began on the bench.

Loughanure's Marc Walsh scored one of the goals for Dergview in a 2-2 draw with Ards at Darragh Park.
