Former Finn Harps manager Dave Rogers has been unveiled as the new head coach of Balzan, who play in the Maltese Premier League

Former Finn Harps manager Dave Rogers has been appointed as the new boss of Maltese Premier Division side Balzan.

Rogers has signed a two-year contract after being chosen as the successor to Oliver Spiteri.

In late 2022, Rogers agreed a four-year deal at Finn Harps, but last September he stepped down following a 5-1 loss at Cobh Ramblers, at a stage with Harps sitting bottom-bar-one in the First Division.

Balzan finished eighth in the League and Rogers has been unveiled as their new head coach.

The 48-year-old Liverpudlian played for a range of clubs including Shelbourne, Dundee, Derry City, Carlisle United and Southport.

He has worked for Liverpool FC's international academy and he joined Harps having been the Under-21 manager at Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest.

On being appointed as Balzan's new head coach, Rogers said: “Our vision and principles are aligned with each others and the club's desire and ambition to lift the standards of both the first team and the Academy is a challenge we aim to embrace and enjoy.

“My objective is to apply and implement a style of play and identity throughout the club. . . I have been immensely impressed by the club's facilities and infrastructure.

Club President Anton Tagliaferro said: “We are excited to announce the appointment of Dave Rogers as our new full time Head coach of Balzan F.C.

“Dave will bring leadership and high standards to the role whilst also delivering energy and enthusiasm and creating a real positive environment.”
