Donegal Premier Division champions Fanad United
Arthur Lynch is adamant that Fanad United would be foolish in the extreme to completely centre their focus on the imminent threats of Letterkenny Rovers and Bonagee United.
With the slow unravelling of the Ulster Senior League in recent times culminating in its inevitable demise, all three heavyweights now find themselves in direct competition once more in the Donegal Junior League’s top tier.
Lynch’s men quickly climbed the ladder and have now won back-to-back Premier Division titles - the first of those having come straight out of the First Division. Rovers and Bonagee have now followed suit.
However, experienced campaigner Lynch - speaking at Friday Donegal League presentations night in Letterkenny, says he won’t be obsessing with either Letterkenny outfit as they look to hold onto their crown in 2024/25.
“Three titles in a row, as a club we’re delighted and privileged to be here. It’s a great event. It’s just lovely to be a part of it.
“From our point of view, it still looks very familiar. I’ve been looking at Letterkenny Rovers and Bonagee United for the last 30 years! For my vintage, it’s kinda the same landscape as it's always been but perhaps just under a different umbrella.
“But it would be foolish to obsess or just focus on those two next season. We came up two years ago and won the Premier Division and that was no mean feat.
“There is no doubt both those clubs already have the quality to do that. All we can do is look after our own end of things. Again, I couldn’t be happier with the group of players we have at our disposal.
“I mean you also have to give huge respect and be aware of the threats of the likes of Kilmacrennan Celtic, Kildrum Tigers, Keadue Rovers and so on. That’s some serious pedigree.
“So it would be completely wrong to obsess with just one or two teams. The rest are top class outfits with real tradition as well. It’ll be exciting and you’re right, a huge challenge.
“We’ll just concentrate on ourselves and, to be honest, chatting to others in here tonight and seeing the numbers and the success of the event once more, we’re all looking forward to getting going again”.
