Ciaran Coll came off the bench on Friday night to score a rare goal that happened to be Derry City's 1800th in league football since their entry to the League of Ireland.

The St Johnston man had only netted twice previously for the Candystripes.

However, Coll sprung from the bench to score in the 5-1 rout of Drogheda United at the Brandywell.

Derry were already cruising to the three points with Cameron Dummigan, Will Patching, Daniel Kelly and Pat Hoban on the mark.

Ruaidhri Higgins brought Coll on in the 86th minute and within two minutes he headed home his side's fifth of the night.

Derry are second in the Premier Division, just two points off leaders Shelbourne.

Coll is in his sixth season at the Brandywell. Previously, Coll - who had a spell at Hearts after developing through the ranks at Kildrum Tigers - made 270 appearances for Finn Harps.

He has now played 428 games between Harps and Derry.
