Finn Harps to assess fresh Kevin Jordan injury

Finn Harps defender Kevin Jordan was forced out of Sunday's friendly against Cliftonville after picking up an injury in the warm-up.

The Buncrana man had only just returned from an injury when playing 72 minutes of Thursday's 1-0 win over Kerry at Finn Park.

Jordan was sidelined for five months with the injury, sustained in a pre-season game against Derry City.

The 20-year-old was due to start against Cliftonville on Sunday, but had to withdraw.

“Kevin picked up an injury in the warm-up,” manager Darren Murphy confirmed. “With those type of injuries, you need the 24 hours so we will assess him again. It's the same knee, but we'll give it the 24 hours. It's wait and see.”

Murphy had a look at two trialists, but it remains to be seen if Gavin Gilmore or Cassius Joseph will earn a contract at Harps.

Murphy said: “The game came at a good time to have a look at them. I'll watch the game back and speak to my coaching staff. Will it go anywhere? I don't know at the moment.

“I will only bring players in if they're going to improve us. There is no point in progressing a Darragh Coyle or a Gavin McAteer and then bringing in someone to put them out.

“I also have to look at the potential of what they have and we have put a lot of work into the kids.”

Harps face two trips to Cork City in the next two weeks, a First Division meeting this Friday followed by an FAI Cup date seven days later.

Murphy is unsure on the availability of attacker Success Edogun, who has returned to Nigeria to attend to a family matter.

The Cliftonville outing allowed Conor Tourish, Max Hutchison and Aaron McLaughlin – who have all had spells of varying length out injured in recent times – to play almost an hour.
