Seamus Coleman of Everton in action against Kevin Muldoon of Sligo Rovers during the pre-season friendly match
Donegal Town teen Kevin Muldoon had a Sligo Rovers debut he'll never forget when he grabbed a goal against Everton in a friendly played at a sold-out Showgrounds.
The 18-year-old, who was being marked by Everton and Ireland captain Seamus Coleman, netted 12 minutes into the second half to put Rovers 3-1 up.
However, Youssef Chermiti scored in the 84th and 86th minute to salvage a draw for the Premier League side. Beforehand, Luke Pearce and Kyle McDonagh had helped the home side into a 2-0 half-time lead, with Mason Holgate pulling one back for Everton in the 53rd minute.
Two other Donegal men made second-half appearances for Sligo - Colin Mooney from Killybegs and Shane Malone, who is a native of Glenties.
In January, Four Masters clubman Muldoon helped Abbey Vocational School to a first-ever MacLarnon Cup with a 2-10 to 0-8 point win over Our Lady & St Patrick’s College, Knock in the Athletic Grounds. Muldoon, schoolmate Seanán Carr, along with Finbarr Roarty from St Columba’s Comprehensive, Glenties, received recognition for their performances at school level by being added to the Ulster Schools All-Star team for 2024. Muldoon signed for Sligo Rovers having previously lined out for Donegal Town FC.
