Finn Harps are hoping that Gavin Hodgins will return to training this week.

The striker picked up an injury during his Harps debut last week in Kerry and had to sit out Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Dundalk at Finn Park.

The 19-year-old, who was signed from Shelbourne, sustained an ankle injury, but the outlook isn’t too bad.

“Gavin rolled the ankle and got stood on it,” Harps coach Tommy Canning reported.

“We’re hoping that he’s back training. He’s a tough kid. If he had been allowed to play, he’d have played. He’s one of those. He will be back training on Monday.”

Darragh Coyle has begun running on the pitch as he continues on the long way back from a cruciate injury, while Aaron McLaughlin is doing “bits and pieces” and Harps are aiming to have him back “soon”.

Canning said of McLaughlin: “He would be a big addition. He has the quality, pace and running power that would do us no harm.”
