Largy native Patrick McClafferty made his senior international debut for Gibraltar, coming off the bench in their 3-1 defeat to Montenegro in the UEFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The former St Catherine’s youth player, who previously represented Gibraltar at U-21 level, was called up by manager Scott Wiseman ahead of the qualifiers.
Gibraltar took a shock lead in the 13th minute through Dan Bent after a defensive lapse, but Montenegro equalised nine minutes later via Stevan Jovetić. The hosts dominated possession and took control in the second half, with Marko Tuci scoring in the 70th minute before Adam Marušić sealed the win three minutes later.
Despite Gibraltar’s efforts, Montenegro’s attacking pressure proved too strong. Both teams received multiple yellow cards in a physical encounter, with referee António Nobre ensuring fair play.
The win moves Montenegro to the top of Group L, while Gibraltar remains bottom.
