Johnny Kenny made his first Celtic start and marked it with a goal in the Scottish Premiership as his side ran out 5-1 winners at Aberdeen.

Kenny is the son of Johnny Snr, who played for Finn Harps between 1999 and 2003 and made 153 appearances for the Ballybofey club, winning a First Division Cup in 2002.

He has also family in Bundoran, related to Donegal's 1992 All-Ireland winning manager Brian McEniff, who is a cousin of his grandmother Kitty King. 

Kenny Jnr, from Riverstown, Co Sligo, joined Celtic from Sligo Rovers in January 2022 and spent the last two seasons on loan at Shamrock Rovers. In 2024, he scored 20 goals in 39 appearances for the Tallaght-based side, before returning to Parkhead, where he made his debut against Ross County in January.

In a prelude to the Scottish Cup final on Saturday, May 24, at Hampden Park, Celtic, who are chasing the domestic treble having already been crowned league champions having won the Scottish League Cup in December.

Maik Nawrocki gave Celtic the lead before Kevin Nesbet levelled for the hosts at Pittodrie. Yand Hyun-Jun and Luke McCowan scored on either side of half-time to stretch the lead out to 3-1 before Kenny headed the fourth on 54 minutes. Adam Idah added the fifth in the 94th minute.
