Colm McGonigle lays a wreath in memory of Ollie Horgan at Traigh-A-Loch
Fanad United paid their respects at their first game of the season to their long-time servant Ollie Horgan on Thursday night.
The club were playing their first match since the sad passing of the Galway native and Fanad stalwart as they welcomed Whitestrand United to Traigh-A-Loch in the Brian McCormick Cup.
Before the match, a wreath was laid on the pitch by Colm McGonigle as the sides applauded to remember the legacy of a man who did so much for the club.
Horgan joined Fanad in 1989 after moving up to Donegal to teach in St Eunan’s College and won the Ulster Senior League several times as a player, while he was also part of the side that won the FAI Intermediate Cup in 1995.
He would then move into the managerial role and won three further Ulster Senior League titles with the club, including their final triumph in 2011 before moving on to manage Finn Harps in the League of Ireland.

Fanad won the game 2-0 thanks to goals from James Gallagher and Charlie McAteer to advance to the Letterkenny Area semi-final against Bonagee United this Sunday.
