Mark Hughes heaped praise on Georgie Kelly after the Tooban man scored twice for Carlisle United on Saturday.
Kelly’s double secured a 2-1 win over Tamworth to continue their promotion push in the National League.
Kelly opened the scoring in the 25th minute at Brunton Park, steering in after Jas Singh saved from Chris Conn-Clarke.
Tamworth drew level in the 39th minute when he flicked home a Ronan Maher cross.
Ten minutes from the end, Kelly hammered home the winner.
“Georgie's obviously an intelligent guy and knows what he needs,” Carlisle boss Hughes, the former Manchester United and Wales attacker, said.
“He's always thinking about well how can I bring other people into the game and give them what they need from his presence on the field so that's good.
“Like I said, he's an intelligent player and he's always thinking of how he can affect the opposition and that comes from understanding his teammates as well in terms of what they want.”
Carlisle are locked with Rochdale at the top of the National League and eager to get back into the Football League again.
The 29-year-old Kelly has now scored six times for Carlisle this season.
Hughes said: “I’ve played that type of game for a long time myself and I know how difficult it can be. I've got a lot of empathy with Georgie but we constantly got into wide areas always and looked like we could penetrate and get balls across the box.
“He's had a number of good performances without the goals to illustrate that fact. Pleased for him, he works exceptionally well and exceptionally hard for the team. He got his reward today thankfully.”
Kelly moved to Carlisle in 2024 from Rotherham.

He said: At times it's been up and down. I know results have been good but at times performances haven't been amazing. Even there tonight, on another night you could lose that game.
“It's important we sort that out a little bit and become a little bit tidier and a little bit more controlled. Especially in games at home.”
