David Moyes gave an update on the severity of the injury that will be expected to keep Seamus Coleman out of action until 2026.

The Everton boss was speaking before their match with Nottingham Forest, with the Blues winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury Hall, after an early own goal.

“Seamus pulled his hamstring, so Seamus is going to be out for a little while. I don't know exactly the timescale for it.”

The Killybegs man missed the game after suffering a hamstring injury early on in the game against Manchester United at the end of November.

Coleman returned as captain for his first Premier League start of the season against the Red Devils, only to be forced off injured inside ten minutes in the 1-0 win.

The Killybegs man was returning to Merseyside full of confidence after playing a huge part on International duty with the Republic of Ireland as they defeated Portugal 2-0 and Hungary 3-2 to finish second in their World Cup qualifying Group F, thanks to a 96th minute Troy Parrott winner as he sealed a hat-trick in Budapest.

Coleman will be hoping to get back to fitness for their World Cup play-off semi-final against Czechia in Prague, with a home game against Denmark or North Macedonia up for grabs in the final and a chance to reach the 2026 finals.

Ireland, should they qualify, will be in Group A with hosts Mexico, and South Korea and South Africa, with two games played in Mexico and one in Atlanta, Georgia.
