After a lack-lustre first half, Letterbarrow Celtic and Drumoghill provided plenty of second half entertainment with the home side deserving winners in the end. The result closes the gap between the sides to two points with Letterbarrow now back in the promotion race in the Donegal Physiotherapy Division 2.

It was a bit like waiting for a bus in the opening half and then all three goals came within seven minutes of the restart.

The opening half was evenly contested with Liam O’Donnell flashing a shot just past the post for Drumoghill while Christian Ward and Darragh Burke had half-chances for the home side.

The closest effort of the half came on 17 minutes when Daniel Meehan hit a wonder shot from 30 yards that was just inches wide.

The second half was just in the second minute when Letterbarrow took the lead. Their left-back Antonio Romero switched play from left to right and Rory Kennedy crossed for Daniel Meehan to slide home from close range.

The lead was short-lived as Letterbarrow failed to clear the next attack and Karol McGinley nipped in to punish and level matters. Just two minutes later Letterbarrow were back in front with Darragh Burke beating his man and firing home for a very good individual score.

There was further drama within minutes when Drumoghill were awarded a penalty, which looked harsh against ‘Barrow ‘keeper Cathal Charlton. The home ‘keeper made up for the error and made a great stop from the spot kick.

The home side’s sideline picked up yellow cards for their protestations at the penalty award and there was frustration evident from the Letterbarrow players on the pitch as well. But they seemed to harness the frustration in a positive way and they dominated much of the remainder of the game with Des McGroarty outstanding at the back, while Rory Kennedy also played a magnificent role and the Spanish-born Antonio was excellent on the other wing, although he is likely to miss a few games after picking up an injury in the final minutes for challenges that both saw Drumoghill players see yellow.

Christian Ward and Darragh Burke continued to probe openings and Rory Kennedy was denied by a great save by Crampsie in the Drumoghill goal. Kennedy also had the ball in the net but was ruled out for offside.

Letterbarrow had to defend a couple of corners late on but they held on for the victory.
