Finn Harps women claimed their first ever senior league win on Sunday with a 2-1 result against Drogheda United at Finn Park.

The home side went ahead after 16 minutes when Aishlinn Coll applied the finish following good work from Ella McHugh.

Harps added a second before the break to strengthen their position. Alannah Curran was on target nine minutes later, sending the hosts into half-time with a two-goal lead.

Drogheda United improved after the interval and reduced the gap midway through the second half. Isabel Hetherton found the net for the visitors to make it 2-1.

Despite the pressure late on, Harps held their lead and saw the game out to collect the three points.

It represents a significant moment for Dessie McGlinchey’s squad and the club as they register their first victory at senior level.

The result moves Harps into third place in Group 1, although a number of teams below them still have games to play.

Next up for the Finn Park side is an away trip next Sunday when they face Athlone Town at Athlone Town Stadium.
