Gweedore Celtic win FAI Club of the Month

Gweedore Celtic have been rewarded for their great work at underage level with the FAI Aviva Club of the month award.

Gweedore Celtic have been rewarded for their great work at underage level with the FAI Aviva Club of the month award.

The award, which has a cash bonus of 61,500 and the chance of the 55,000 club of the year cheque, will be presented on 11th January in Dublin.

Gweedore were rewarded by their great strides at youth level with up to 140 kids from 6-16 being catered by 21 coaches, who have come through the FAi Education ladder.

The youth organiser Shane Barr was delighted with the award. “There has been a big push at youth level, even with 5-6 year olds and there is something going on every night.

“We are the first Gaeltacht club to get the award and the fact that we do everything through Irish was taken into account.

“Also our partnership with Valencia in Spain was a factor. They came over and spent two days coaching with kids we have here and I will be travelling to Valencia early next year and I would hope to pick up some aspects of coaching which will be helpful here,” said Shane.
