Seamus Coleman gave two young Ukrainian boys a day to remember when he video called their football idol.

Eight-year-old Illia Sydorenko and Mattvii Rybkin, aged 12, were invited to a Republic of Ireland training session on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Nations League game between Ireland and Ukraine.

At the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday, both children, who hail from Zhytomyr, were almost left speechless when Coleman called his Everton team-mate and Ukraine player Vitaliy Mykolenko.

The Killybegs man introduced the boys to Mykolenko, who is one of the stars of the Ukraine side.

The Football Association of Ireland has handed out over 3,000 tickets to Ukrainian refugees who have fled to Ireland from their war-torn country.

FAI President Gerry McAnaney said recently: “Football is only secondary to the current situation in Ukraine and the crisis their people are going through but this donation and the allocation of tickets to Ukrainian families now resident in Ireland will, we hope, consolidate our support for the Ukrainian people.

“I know the Irish people will welcome and support this initiative.”
