Examples of some of the recent vandalism at Rossnowlagh
The Friends of Rossnowlagh group has urged locals to report vandalism to An Garda Síochána in Ballyshannon, stressing it could save lives.
The community group, which gives a unified voice for Rossnowlagh, made the plea after what they described as “more than just careless littering.”
“Broken glass has been scattered across the public car park and along the beach,” they posted. “Bottles have been smashed into the rock armour, creating a dangerous environment for all who visit.

“Life-saving equipment such as life rings has been removed and abandoned, potentially putting lives at risk. Community notice boards have been damaged, bins have been overturned, and important beach signs have been ripped out and discarded.
“These acts are more than just careless littering. They pose real dangers to the safety of people and pets. Broken glass can cause serious injuries. Missing or damaged life rings could delay emergency rescues. Broken bins and toilets make the beach less welcoming, while vandalised notice boards mean lost information and a diminished sense of community.
“Rossnowlagh Beach in Donegal is more than just a beautiful destination. It is a shared space, treasured by families, surfers, walkers, swimmers, and visitors from near and far. However, recent incidents have raised serious concerns about how this special place is being treated.
“Protecting Rossnowlagh is a responsibility we all share. If you witness any serious vandalism or anti-social behaviour, please report it immediately to the Gardaí at Ballyshannon by calling 071 985 8530. Your vigilance could help prevent further damage and keep our beach safe for everyone.
“Every person can make a difference. Respect the beach and its facilities. Lead by example through your actions. If you see inappropriate behaviour, call it out respectfully but firmly. Support local beach cleanups and help foster a sense of pride in this wonderful place.
“Rossnowlagh belongs to all of us. Together, by taking care of it, we ensure it remains safe, beautiful, and welcoming for generations to come. Please stay alert, stay respectful, and stay proud of our beach.”
