'Basic sanitation is not a luxury - it’s a minimum standard'

Thje Rossnowlagh Community say that the local community, tourists, and environment deserve better

A local community group has called on Donegal County Council and Fáilte Ireland to improve the number and standards of toliets available at the Rossnowlagh beach.

With the current hot spell and plenty of people out and about, the Rossnowlagh Community took to social media today to post the inadequacies, where only one toilet is in operation at the south end of the beach, and even at that, you’d only use it "if desperate."

"One working toilet — for the entire south end of Rossnowlagh beach," they posted. "And even that one you’d only use if desperate. This is not just a bad look - it’s an embarrassment. Long queues, overflowing facilities, and no dignity for locals or visitors alike.

"Donegal County Council — is this really how you value one of Ireland’s most loved beaches? Fáilte Ireland - is this what we offer to those who come here expecting world-class coastal experiences? Our community, our tourists, and our environment deserve better. Basic sanitation is not a luxury — it’s a minimum standard."
