“I was totally raging. I just could not believe it. I wanted to know who the Traitors were and why they chose me”

Inishowen woman Edelle McDaid’s dream of appearing on RTÉ’s The Traitors has ended in the most bizarre fashion – after she was banished by her fellow contestants before she even discovered who the other Traitors were.

The 44-year-old Glengad woman had described her appearance on the hit show as a “dream come true”, but that dream lasted just two episodes after she became the first contestant voted out.

By Monday night, the mum-of-three and Software Operations Lead was out of the game – having been banished at the very first Roundtable despite only becoming a Traitor herself hours earlier.

Edelle, a former pupil of Carndonagh Community School who is well known throughout Inishowen through her involvement in the arts, had started the game as a Faithful.

She was then chosen as a secret fourth Traitor by the original Traitors Fionula, Páraic K and Carla at the end of Sunday night’s opening episode.

The Glengad woman was selected to join them in the Traitors’ conclave and was tasked with choosing the first Faithful to be “murdered” – Dublin vocal coach Emma.

But there was a hilarious twist.

Edelle was due to meet her fellow Traitors in the conclave on Monday night and finally discover their identities.

Instead, she was sitting at the Roundtable facing accusations from the other contestants – and was banished before she ever got to meet them.

Appearing on Traitors Uncloaked on Monday night alongside Emma, who had been the first contestant murdered, Edelle admitted she was devastated by the extraordinary turn of events.

“I was totally raging. I just could not believe it. I wanted to know who the Traitors were and why they chose me.”

“I was so excited, but my first instinct was that they’d throw me under the bus. I went through so many emotions… It was crazy.”

Edelle joked that she had been a Traitor for “five minutes”, while admitting that she knew “people were gonna come for me at the Roundtable”.

And the reason she attracted suspicion proved to be one of the strangest moments of the opening two episodes.

Several contestants felt that Edelle had been behaving differently after the first three Traitors were selected, while Cork sales manager Laura became convinced that she was hiding something.

Her biggest piece of evidence? Edelle drank a full glass of water.

The Inishowen woman joked about the bizarre accusation on Traitors Uncloaked, saying she likes to drink plenty of water and that it was one of the silliest reasons she could have imagined for being singled out.

Edelle also revealed on Traitors Uncloaked that she has ADHD and suggested that this may have counted against her, with some of her behaviour being interpreted differently by the other contestants.

Despite her incredibly brief spell in the castle, Edelle made a strong impression on viewers and brought a distinctly Inishowen connection to the RTÉ series.
