Match programme feature on Coleman

There was a familiar face on the front cover of the match programme for Everton's Premiership meeting with Tottenham on Sunday.

Donegal's Seamus Coleman not only featured on the front cover but was also the subject of an in-depth interview inside.

He spoke of his delight at making his 200th appearance for the club and also looked ahead to the Euro 2016 finals in France.

Coleman impressed for Everton in their 1-1 draw with Spurs on Sunday and speaking before the game, he admitted games against Tottenham were extra special for him.

The defender made his Goodison Park debut against Spurs in December 2009, coming on as an early substitute for the injured Joseph Yobo.

It was a day to remember for the Killybegs man who made an immediate impact, providing two assists as his team fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw.

“It’s still a really special fixture for me to play Tottenham at home because all my friends and family remember it as the game that I broke on to the scene here,” he said.

“It was a special feeling that night. Obviously my debut against Benfica didn’t go too well and I just wanted to put that right.

“We had a lot of injuries at the time and thankfully I got on. It was one of those games that you feel was maybe meant to happen. All my hard work from over the years had paid off on that night and it’s a special one to look back on.

“It was great [to get two assists], but I was just so eager to get on the pitch and prove to the fans what I was capable of. Everything seemed to fall for me.”

Coleman was set to feature for Everton last night in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final meeting with Manchester City at Goodison. They host Dagenham and Redbrige in the FA Cup 3rd round on Saturday.
