Donegal much too hot for Down

Donegal put on a five star performance as they proved much too strong for a poor Down side in Newry in the opening game of the Allianz National Football League.

Donegal 3-15

Goals from Ryan McHugh (2) and Patrick McBrearty put Donegal clear in the second half, but they were well on their way as they led 0-9 to 0-3 at half-time.

Their only scare was a 20th minute penalty but Peter Boyle made a great stop from Donal O'Hare at a time when there was only two points between the sides.

Scorers - Donegal - Michael Murphy 0-8; Ryan McHugh 2-0; Patrick McBrearty 1-3; Leo McLoone 0-2; Frank McGlynn, Ciaran Thompson 0-1 each.

Down - Donal O'Hare 0-4; Arthur McConville 0-2; Conaill McGovern 0-1.
