Democrat Cup success celebrated by St. Michael's

On a night of celebration at their annual dinner dance, founding member of St Michael's GAA club, Mick "Hudie" McGinley was inducted to the club's Hall of Fame.

The event celebrated a successful year for St. Michael's. The senior team lifting the coveted Democrat Cup when they topped Division One of the All County League for the first time in the club's history.

Special guest Mick, who as well as being a founding member, was one of the first generation of St Michael's players to win honours for the club.

In a kind gesture, he handed over the very first medal he won for St. Michael's in 1954.

The medal is displayed in a framed presentation case for the club to hang in their clubhouse.

His gesture was met with a standing ovation from the club members.

Mick congratulated St. Michael's on all their success and said he always kept up with the club after he moved away from the area as a serving member of An Garda Siochana.

"When we sat down in 1952 we never realised the club would reach such heights," he told the audience in Arnold's Hotel on Saturday night.

He was also on hand to present the Divison One winners medals to the team.

The evening saw a host of other awards presented to Players of the Year in a host of categories.

A special appreciation award was presented to Brian Dolan.
