Hugh breaks more records

Hugh Gallagher, Milford AC, continued his winning ways at the Irish Masters Indoors at the weekend.

Hugh, who won three world and one silver medal at the World Masters Athletic Championships held in Lyon, in France in August 2015, continued his success at the Irish Masters Indoor Athletic Championships in Athlone on Sunday when he won the shot putt and the long jump in the over 90 category. He also broke the Irish record in the long jump.

Hugh has now won 172 All-Ireland Gold medals competing in Athletics of Ireland and the Irish weight throwing.

Hugh has won 29 World gold medals, 5 world silver and 2 world bronze medals. He also holds world records in the 35lb and 56lb shot putts at different age groups, the 5kg Greek discus, Goulding hammer and javelin triathlon at different age groups.

Hugh hold over 40 Irish records in both Athletics of Ireland and the Irish weight throwing.

Hugh holds Irish records in running, walking, jumping and every weight throwing from 400 grams javelin to 112lb weight throw.

He has also won 23 European gold and 5 silver medals. 25 British gold medals including scotch and Welsh medals.

At a meeting of the Ulster Athletics Sports Star Awards committee held in Tyrone, the nine counties of Ulster unanimously selected Hugh for the prestigious Ulster Hall of Fame award. Hugh received this award in the four seasons hotel in Monaghan in November. Hugh received a standing ovation from the packed crowd from all over Ulster. These judges know what it takes to reach the top in whatever sport you compete in and Hugh Gallagher has once again reached the top of Athletics.
