After the inaugural tournament in 2015, the second annual soccer tournament took place on the shorefront pitch in Dungloe on Saturday, 30th July, during the Mary from Dungloe Festival.
Five teams in all participated - Gweedore Celtic, Glenea Utd, Strand Rovers, Randox-Dungloe and Keadue Rovers. The competition was run off on a round-robin basis.
At the end of the group games Keadue Rovers and Glenea Utd both had nine points and progressed to the final. They still could not be separated during the playing time in the final. It was straight to penalties then, with Glenea Utd coming out on top 2-1 and Keadue Rovers finishing runners-up for the second successive year. The referee once again this year was Michael McFadden of Annagry.
After the final, organiser Paul Greene thanked all the teams for taking part. He said it had been a great tournament, commiserated with Keadue Rovers and congratulated Glenea Utd on their win. He then made the presentations to Keadue Rovers first and then Glenea Utd before presenting the Forbairt na Rosann Perpetual Cup to the Glenea Utd captain Dean Gallagher. Finally, he thanked Michael McFadden the referee, for obliging once again this year.
Forbairt na Rosann would like to thank all the clubs for their participation and all of the following sponsors - Main sponsor, Gerry Brennan, Denis Hanlon (50 euro), Phonsie McCullagh (50 euro) and Jamesie Cannon (50 euro also). Forbairt na Rosann now looks forward to staging the third annual tournament again next year during the historic 50th Mary from Dungloe Festival.
