Aodh Ruadh, thanks to their four point win over Downings, have clinched promotion to Division Two after many years of struggling.
Aodh Ruadh . . . . . . . . 0-12
Downings . . . . . . . . . . . 0-8
It wasn't easy in this game either, as they failed to take chances in the second half and for a good part of the final 20 minutes, there was just a couple of points between the sides.
Aodh Ruadh led 0-8 to 0-5 at the break, but at one stage led by 0-7 to 0-1 before Downings finished the half well.
Indeed, the final point of the half for Downings by Gary Ban McClafferty was their only point from play as Lorcan Connor (3) and Colin Gallagher converted frees.
Aodh Ruadh had a great first 20 minutes with five different scorers - David McGurrin getting them underway and Seamus Kane (2), Jason Granaghan, David Dolan and Diarmuid McInerney (2) converting.
Before half-time Downings created a great goal chance but Peter Boyle made a double save to deny them while Paddy Gillespie hit a great point at the other end.
Paddy Gillespie added his second on the restart but two Lorcan Connor points reduced the margin to two. And Peter Boyle was again called into action, making a great stop.
David Dolan and Connot traded frees by the 45th minute, and in the final quarter just two points were added, both by Aodh Ruadh, Damien Cleary on 55 minutes and Paddy Gillespie with his third in added time. Aodh Ruadh messed up a number of good chances with Gillespie setting up Seamus Kane, but his effort from close range was stopped by the Downings 'keeper.
Before the end with blood rising, Damien Cleary and Kevin Doherty were shown straight red cards.
