Given remains at Eastlands
Shay Given will remain at Manchester City until the summer least after the January transfer window failed to see him depart Eastlands.
The rumourmill was in overdrive on Monday, stating City Roberto Mancini was eyeing Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti as possible back-up to Joe Hart. It had also been suggested 34-year-old Given would find himself a loan move to the Championship, on the condition he could be called back by City within 24 hours should they have required.
Leicester City was one mooted destination, although they added to their goalkeeping staff with the introduction of former Portugal international Ricardo. The odds on Given signing for Cardiff City plummeted from 33/1 to even money at one stage after a "number of large bets" were placed on the 108-times capped netminder moving to Wales.
Blackpool and Arsenal were also mentioned as possible destinations for the Lifford native. However, despite the fact he suggested he was willing to drop a league in order to maintain sharpness, Given remains in Manchester, having played only four times this term for the Premier League club.
