TULLYLISH put the disappointment of their opening day defeat behind them to record an impressive win away to Saul on Friday night.
Despite playing with the wind the locals were slow to settle and found themselves two points down, before points from John McAreavey and Peter Quinn has them level after 10 minutes.
The Saul forwards were very economical with the chances that came their way and two points on the break nudged them into a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
The introduction of Shannon Drainey mid-way through the half give the Tullylish half-forward line another outlet and further scores from McAreavey and Quinn had the teams level as the half drew to a close.
Tullylish continued to make use of the wind though and were rewarded with injury time points from Joe McDermott and Chris McGovern leave the half time score: Tullylish 0-6 Saul 0-4.
Tullylish used the ball well against the wind in the second half and the hard work of Davy Corbett and Gareth Johnston around the middle of the field denied Saul the clean possession they needed to make full use of the elements.
Points from McAreavey, Quinn and McGovern stretched the visitors’ lead to five points mid-way through the second half.
To their credit Saul refused to give up and came more into the game as the match progressed. However, the Tullylish full back line of Barry Priestley, Conor McManus and Mick McCartan coped exceptionally well under the high ball.
Saul did manage to reduce the deficit to three points with 10 minutes left but Tullylish finished strongly with three unanswered points and were full value for their six-point win.
Tullylish’s next match is at home to Glasdrumman on Thursday night at 7.00pm.
