Coláiste na Carraige before their win over Kingscourt
Coláiste na Carraige senior boys are into an Ulster semi-final after a big win, over Kingscourt of Cavan in the Faul Cup Ulster semi-final at the Bawnacre Centre in Irvinestown this afternoon.
Colaiste Na Carraige 3-9
Colaiste Dun an Ri Kingscourt 0-12
The old cliche, 'goals win games' was true again as the goals made the difference for the Carrick side.
Michael Callaghan got the Carrick team off and running with a point before Oisin Byrne levelled matters. Points were traded between Evan Campbell and Aaron Ward before Aaron Kennedy put Kingscourt in front 0-4 to 0-3.
Then the first goal came on 14 minutes as Darragh Cunningham's high ball in ended up in the ne. Just as Michael Callaghan looked to have Carrick one up at the break Sean Owens scored a free leaving it all square at half-time, Coláiste na Carraige 1-4, Kingscourt 0-7
Darragh Cunningham pointed two minutes after restart before a brace of points from Oisin Byrne and Aaron Kennedy put Kingscourt in front but on 40 minutes a Ryan Jones goal put Carrick back in the driving seat.
Kingscourt got back on course with points from Aaron Kennedy, Cormack Yore and Sean Owens to leave one in it with 12 minutes remaining.
Then with six minutes left, Kingscourt were awarded a penalty much to the dismay of the Carrick defence who argued the offence was outside the penalty area but the referee was having none of it. Sean Owens sent his effort to the left hand side and wide.
Carrick finished the game stronger with point from Sean Hardy and straight from the kick out Ciaran Love gained possession and passed it to Ryan Jones who got the three pointer and a Michael Callaghan free on the stroke of 60 minutes was the last score of the game
