ALERT: Met Éireann issues warning to motorists as dense fog is forecast for 11 counties

The status yellow warning will be valid between 5am and 10am on Saturday

Met Éireann is warning motorists across several parts of the country of difficult driving conditions on Saturday morning due to dense fog.

The forecaster, which has issued a status yellow fog warning for 11 counties, says poor visibility is likely in many places.

The warning for counties Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, and Wicklow will take effect at 5am and will remain valid until 10am.

The warning from Met Éireann comes after much of the country experienced freezing conditions earlier this week.

Overnight temperatures dropped as low as –5 degrees on Thursday, resulting in heavy frost and some snow falling on higher ground.

The Road Safety Authority is urging all road users to be vigilant and to ensure their vehicles are safe to drive during any bad weather.

Motorists are also being advised that fog lights should only be used in dense fog or falling snow.
