A fundraiser to help well-known radio presenter Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí get vital cancer treatment abroad has reached €120,000 in less than one week.

The Gaoth Dobhair man was diagnosed with cancer four years ago. He has had 2 major surgeries and around 40 bouts of chemo in the last few years, but is now at a stage where a cure or surgery is not an option, in Ireland.

Over the past week, people from across the country have come together to show their support for the broadcaster who has achieved so much for the Irish culture and language.

He is currently receiving treatment at a clinic in Spain, and is organising other suitable treatments at clinics abroad. The cost of these treatments are very expensive. The fund was established with a €120,000 goal in mind, however, friends are eager to raise €180,000 for his treatment.

The popular broadcaster has been to the fore in promoting the Irish language and supporting bands that are affiliated with the Irish language and culture.

He was the first broadcaster to play CEARTA by Kneecap. They took to social media to say: "A very good friend of ours , Rónán Mac Aodh Bhuí is sick and we are helping to raise funds for him. He always believed in us, regardless ... He wanted to play CEARTA on his show on RnaG, which subsequently got the song banned which gave us publicity we could never dream of, he was always takin chances in things he believed in. And he believed strongly in the survival of our language and the need for contemporary Irish language music. It was Rónán who gave us our first gig in Gaoth Dobhair, a gig that would really cement the rest of our musical journey."

Ronán enjoyed playing new music on his show and over the years Rónán Beo and he often invited people into the studio to play their music and sing their songs.
