The Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District has called on Donegal TDs to try and change a national policy which restricts people building on the N56.

Councillor Michael McClafferty was speaking ahead of a meeting in Lifford today where councillors are meeting to discuss the Draft County Development plan for 2024-2030.

He said: "We head into the eleventh hour with no resolution on access to the N56. The N56 is truly the elephant in the room. I am calling on Donegal TDs to please fight for our county, your people, your constituents and the future."

He asked that people who have land on the N56 be allowed to build on it. The issue has been raised many times at the Glenties Municipal District meetings. The next meeting of the Glenties Municipal District takes place tomorrow Tuesday.
