Labour Party candidate in the forthcoming council election for the Glenties Electoral Area, Jimmy Duffy has called for immediate action to tackle the current housing crisis.

"One of the greatest challenges affecting the younger generation and families of this area today is trying to find a place for long-term rental.

"During the pandemic we saw the return of many short term lets for use as longer term accommodation, but as every report shows, there is now a trend towards evicting tenants, and turning properties into short term lets."

He said it was now time for long-term housing to be prioritised.

"At a time when the market is marked by a lack of housing supply, we should be doing everything we can to ensure those who want to rent long term are prioritised.

"We have too many families in hotels, and too many tourists in homes.

We need to see action immediately," he said.
