Lorry loads of readymix cement came to the island for the wall foundation of the new graveyard and blocks for the walls will be coming soon

A new online fundraiser has opened to sponsor a pallet of blocks in memory of a loved one on Arranmore island.

Lorry loads of readymix cement came to the island for the wall foundation of the new graveyard and blocks for the walls will be coming soon.

"A few lorry loads of ready mix cement were put into the ground," Denis O'Donnell, one of the fundraisers, says. "This is a huge outlay of money.

"The fundraising committee of the graveyard met on Sunday to discuss fundraising for the graveyard and decided to go with the idea of donations to sponsor blocks. A pallet of 32 blocks (six-inch) is around €50. Wouldn't it be great to say you bought some blocks for the graveyard?

"When donating, you know your money is going towards something you can see. Do it anyway you like. How much you like. If you don't do online you can give an envelope and mark it graveyard at the weekend collections, or give it to any committee member, like last year. Bank details are Bank Of Ireland Dungloe, BIC: BOFIE2D IBAN: IE77BOFI 90487858877307 Account: Curate of Arranmore Bishop Of Raphoe. The iDonate is called 'Sponsor a Pallet of Blocks for Arranmore Graveyard'."
