Over fifty people gathered in Gaoth Dobhair for #BloodySunday50
Around fifty people gathered in the car park across from Bád Eddie today to remember the events of Bloody Sunday which happened half a century ago.
The event was a non-political one and other events were held in the Market Square in Letterkenny, Donegal town, Lifford and Buncrana.
Bloody Sunday, or the Bogside Massacre, happened on January 30, 1972, in the Bogside area of Derry, when British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a protest march against internment without trial. Fourteen people died, thirteen were killed outright, while the death of another man four months later was attributed to his injuries.
In the battering rain and wind, Anne Blair, welcomed all those to the event and a minute's silence was held. The names of those who lost their lives that tragic day in Derry were called out. People came with posters with the pictures of those who had lost their lives on them.
Simon MacGiolla Easbuig sang 'Ordinary Sunday' - the words of the poignant song, masterfully sang, brought a fitting end to the event.
