A view of Arranmore Island
A new App that includes all services and businesses on Arranmore Island is to be launched tomorrow, Friday in the Cultúrlann at 3pm.
Locals and visitors to the island will be able to download the App Seo Aráinn Mhór tomorrow and will be able to click onto a calendar that will tell them exactly what great gigs, shows and activities are on the horizon.
The App was created by Matthew Loughnane who has worked in software development for over a decade and has been producing Apps for over 5 years. His mother Mary née Proctor Loughnane is native to the island and when the pandemic struck, Matthew, who is in a vulnerable category, grabbed the opportunity to return to an island that had been his summer home for many years.
"It was John Mc Cafferty who came to me with the idea. There are a lot of things to do in Arranmore and they are being highlighted on all different types of social media. This brings all services and businesses together in one App," Matthew said.
Matthew's expertise has been called upon in Donegal before and he is the man who created the App for an island ferry.
The App will have plenty of content in the Irish language due to the hard work of Fiona Ní Ghloinn and Maureen Muldowney who is to the fore in paving and cementing the path for the Irish language on the island.
"The businesses and services can upload onto the App and from tomorrow they will be able to download," Matthew said.
