The people behind Killaghtee Festival have once again put together a packed programme that showcases the people and places that make up this culture-rich community.
This year’s festival takes place from Friday to August 23 to Sunday, August 25 across Dunkineely, Bruckless and St. John’s Point.
Highlights
The grand opening parade will take place in Dunkineely on Friday, August 23 at 7pm.
A spokesperson said: “Joining us as always, will be the Killaghtee Marching Accordion Band, and we also have Kevin’s School of Music Marching Band. We also have the return of Banjo and Laura for entertainment.”
A fancy dress competition for children up to 10 years of age takes place in central Dunkineely at 7.30pm. The theme is Characters From History. There are €10 vouchers up for grabs for Milis in Killybegs.
Back by popular demand is the boat trip around St John’s Point taking place in partnership with the Local Authorities Waters Programme. It leaves Killybegs Marina on Sunday, August 25 at 6pm.
The spokesperson said: “We will take a leisurely two-hour trip around the point, taking in some stunning local sites.
“Join us and Atlantic Coastal Cruises as we look out for dolphins, seals, tuna, basking sharks and many species of birds. There will be a bar and entertainment throughout the trip.”
Tickets cost €15 per person and can be purchased at killaghtee.ie/shop (€1 booking fee applies) or from Floyd’s Mace in Dunkineely.
Saturday’s events kick off with dawn yoga at St John’s Point Lighthouse at 5.30am. There will be plein air art at McSwyne’s Castle, which is also the venue for music and talks throughout the afternoon.
Kelan Brown will play a live outdoor concert in Dunkineely on Saturday evening.
Bruckless is the place to be on Sunday, with a craft fair, cake competition, tai chi, a dog show and family sports day.
The Battle of the Bands also takes place on Sunday with €100 for the winners.
And there will be a barbecue, bouncy castle and face painting to add to the party atmosphere in Bruckless Park.
This is just a flavour of what is in store. The full programme can be found by going to www.Killaghtee.ie and clicking on the Festival banner.
