'Homebird': Shauna Scanlon to release first single this week

Ballybofey woman Shauna Scanlon, who will headline at The Balor Arts Centre

Ballybofey singer-songwriter Shauna Scanlon will take to the stage for her first headline gig next weekend in her hometown.

Shauna will headline at The Balor Arts Centre in Ballybofey on May 10.

As a Ballybofey native who has previously performed in musicals and summer shows in the theatre, playing a set of her own songs on the stage is a “dream come true”.

She will be joined by her full band on the night to perform favourites such as ‘Homebird’ - which she burst onto the scene with last year - and ‘Brand New’ along with some new material.

Shauna has had a phenomenal start to her career with the release of her first four singles

Earlier this year, she released her first EP, ‘Brand New’.

This body of work is a compilation of Shauna’s singles to date, including the focus track ‘Keeping On’ and a house remix of ‘If I Knew’. It also includes a brand new original track and live recordings from The Ghostlight Sessions at The Balor Theatre - mixes funded by The Arts Council.

Her first four singles received regional and national airplay; she was chosen as Beta De Silva’s Grassroots Pick of the Week on 2FM and performed on Virgin Media One’s The Six O’Clock Show.

Shauna takes inspiration from experiences she or people in her life have had and makes sense of them through song. Her lyrics are relatable and easy to connect with while her melodies are catchy and memorable long after the first listen.

Shauna’s music is an unusual mix of funk, soul, R’n’B and a wee bit of folk.

She will be supported by fellow Ballybofey singer-songwriter Jason Deery with his mix of catchy melodies and relatable lyrics.

Tickets are on sale now from the Balor Arts Centre box office or on www.balorartscentre.com

The show starts at 8pm and merchandise will be available to buy on the night.
