Excitement mounts as fabulous festive activities planned for Ballyshannon

Honorary Garda Malachi Collins has the big job of switching on the Christmas lights in Ballyshannon

Ballyshannon is the place to be this weekend for a fantastic day of activities to mark the start of the festive season.

From a delightful Christmas market to a visit from Santa, and the switching on of the Christmas lights, this is sure to be a day to remember for all the family. And as if that wasn’t enough, there will be live entertainment to enjoy throughout the day.

Events kick off with the Christmas Market at the Gables from 12 noon. There will be delightful range of festive gifts and handmade crafts available, with stallholders including Ballyshannon Men’s Shed, Wholesome Holistic Therapies, Buttercream Dreams by Shelly, Barbara’s Rosary Beads, Uniquely Made by Fiona, Jamie’s Jams and Treats, Sarah’s Creative Crafts, and Whimsical and Quirky Gifts.

Phil Rooney Comhaltas and Mac 2 will add music and entertainment to the festive atmosphere. 

Activities then move to the Diamond and Saimer Court, where John Meehan will be Master of Ceremonies as excitement builds ahead of the switch-on.

The Brass and Reed Band will entertain at Saimer Court from 3.45pm to 4.15pm. This will be followed by Under The Tree with Ben Canto choir at 4.15pm, and at 4.45pm Ballyshannon Street Samba Band will drum the beat until the arrival of Santa at 5.15pm.

And then the moment everyone will be waiting for - Honorary Garda Malachi Collins will flip the switch to light up Ballyshannon with a wonderful display of Christmas lights.

This is a fantastic way to get into the festive spirit while supporting the local business community.
