Delegates from across Donegal will make the journey to Aontú’s Ard Fheis.

The annual party conference is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise. Over 100 policy motions will be debated and discussed by the hundreds of party members in attendance.

Donegal representative Mary T Sweeney and Rebecca McDaid, Chairperson of Donegal Aontú, have both been nominated for election to the Ard Comhairle, one of the highest officer boards in the party. Delegates will vote on these positions during the Ard Fheis.

“The growth of Aontú is a major story in Irish politics,” Ms Sweeney said. “We started from nothing and with nothing except principles, conviction and a real desire to lead a grassroots-led movement to reflect the views and needs of so many people across Donegal and all 32 counties.

“With aspirations to enter government after the next election, this Ard Fheis marks an important milestone in our continued journey. We have had two new elected Councillors join our ranks and we’re in talks with additional representatives.

The future is bright for Aontú and by extension for the people of Donegal and all over Ireland as we will continue to highlight the inequities and injustices that are blighting our citizens.”

Aontú was formed in 2019 by Peadar Tóibín. The party has two sitting TDs in the 34th Dáil - party leader Tóibín in Meath West and Paul Lawless in Mayo.
