The Letterkenny St Patrick's Day parade traditionally draws huge crowds

There will be temporary road closures for St Patrick's Day 2026 in Letterkenny.

Between 1pm and 5pm on Tuesday, March 17, the Port Road - from the Station roundabout - and Main Street (To the bottom of Lower Main Street) will be closed to traffic.

The Oldtown Road from the bottom of Lower Main Street as far as the entrance to the (old) Dunnes Stores will also remain closed between those times.  Diversions will be in place and Gardaí will be on hand to assist.

The Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce last month announced that the Donegal Little Blue Heroes have accepted the invitation to serve as the Grand Marshals for the 2026 Letterkenny parade.

The Donegal Little Blue Heroes, a group of children living with life‑limiting illnesses who have been made honorary members of An Garda Síochána, will lead the parade through the town.

Sgt Charlene Anderson, the Donegal Garda Divisional representative for the Little Blue Heroes Foundation, said: “We are hugely proud to have been invited to serve as Grand Marshals of the Letterkenny St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It is a tremendous honour for all our Little Blue Heroes. This recognition is very meaningful to everyone involved with our charity and it will be a fantastic, fun day out for all. Thank you to the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce for the very kind invitation.”

The parade, one of the largest in the northwest, is expected to draw thousands of spectators. This year’s event will feature community groups, cultural performers, emergency services, local organisations, and a wide range of family‑friendly entertainment.
