Works set to begin on west Donegal bridge

A ground investigation will now get underway at Curreen Bridge, located on the R520
Long-awaited works are set to begin on a west Donegal bridge.
Curreen Bridge, located near Fintown on the R250, will undergo road realignment. The contract for the project, which was granted €100,000 in funding, was advertised on eTenders.
According to the tender, the bridge and its immediate approaches have been identified as a safety blackspot due to structural impacts and deteriorating conditions. A detailed ground investigation, extending over the entire length of the proposed road redevelopment, will now be carried out. The objective is to ascertain the ground and groundwater conditions and to investigate anomalies.
Sinn Féin councillor Brian Carr expressed his delight that works are progressing, but said he will continue to query it at council meetings.
“Hopefully from now on it will be, what works have been done? Rather than what’s happening with the bridge,” he said. “We’re getting there.”
