The funeral took place yesterday at St Mary’s Church, Derrybeg of Brid Ferry, née McGee.
Hundreds of mourners from across the county attended the wake and funeral underlining the respect for the deceased and her family.
Mrs Ferry, who was 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday night at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Letterkenny.
A native of Dore, she was married to the late Conall Ó Fearraí, who taught at Luinneagh National School.
She was described yesterday by friends of the family as a very friendly, nice person who was devoted to her family and her faith.
She is survived by her six sons Fr Cathal, Noel, Pluincéad, Séamus, Columba and Paul, two daughters Maíre Murphy and Aoife, sister Nora who lives in Milford and brother Fergal who lives on the Magheragallon Road in Derrybeg.
Fr Cathal is Parish Priest of Kilbarron, Ballyshannon and a former principal of St Eunan’s College, Letterkenny. Pluincéad is a former principal of Drumkeen NS and is also very well known for his involvement with An Grianan Theatre and Letterkenny Music and Drama Group. Aoife is an extremely talented singer and composer.
The funeral mass at 12 noon yesterday was followed by burial afterwards in Magheragallon cemetery.
