Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat crew members Shane Smyth and Kealan Mc Nulty ran the 10k annual RNLI Reindeer Run in Marlay Park, Dublin in aid of the RNLI on Sunday last.

The run, now in its second year, attracted 500 runners from all over Ireland who completed the Santa Saunter walk, a 5 kilometre run or a 10 kilometre run.

Despite cold and wet conditions the runners were not deterred and in good spirits on the sounding of the starting horn at 11am. RTE’s Joe O’Shea was on hand to cheer on the crowd and do a warm up.

Volunteer Bundoran Lifeboat Press Officer Shane Smyth commented: “We were delighted to do the run on behalf of the Lifeboat.

“It’s such an important charity that aims to save lives at sea and it was heart-warming to see so many enthusiastic runners, supporters and fundraisers gathered together who are obviously so supportive of the RNLI.

“On a personal note, we both completed the route in under an hour which we were delighted with”

The RNLI is a charity organisation entirely funded by donations and Bundoran Lifeboat’s biggest fundraising night takes place on the annual RNLI SOS Day on Friday January 27th 2012.

The annual dinner dance will be held at the Great Northern Hotel with country star Nathan Carter performing and tickets are available from any crew member.
