Parents of students who take Bus Éireann transport to Finn Valley College are holding a meeting next week to encourage parents to push for a shuttle bus service.

The meeting is scheduled for 8 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the St. Mary’s Parish Centre in Stranorlar.

“We’re trying to get more parents involved,” an organiser said. They have also invited area Oireachtas members to attend.

Parents of students who take the Bus Éireann service to school have been disappointed with plans to drop off and collect students at the Railway Road, about six-tenths of a mile from the new school. Local councillors and parents had called for a shuttle bus to transport the students between the two points. But the Department of Education and Skills rejected a Donegal Vocational Education Committee application for 10,000 euro to fund the service this year.

“We have no problems with the school,” said one of the parents who is organising next week’s meeting. “Our problem has to do with the bus that is taking them to the school.”

“The mornings are a disaster if it’s wet,” she said. “They’re sitting in wet clothes all day.” Parents also pay hundreds of euro a year for the bus service.

She said that the parents did not expect the situation to be resolved in a meeting or two. “Even to try to get a bus for next year, we have to start fighting now,” she said.
