Bundoran Tidy Town’s Group were already planning a big Spring Clean this weekend, as part of An Taisce’s nationwide initiative, but the plan moved up a notch when Colm Hayes and RTÉ’s Weekend Challenge decided to join in!
Now that the cameras will be rolling in Bundoran, a whole tranche of activities will be taking place on both Saturday and Sunday to make the town an even better place to live in and visit.
Everyone is encouraged to get involved in any way they can. If you can’t join in the litter picking or painting, could you make some sandwiches or buns to feed the volunteers? Do you have some old masonry paint lying around or some masonry brushes, rollers or trays that could be loaned for the weekend?
On Saturday, we’ll be meeting at 11am at SuperValu, Bundoran for check in and to get equipment, then heading off to spruce up the Promenade and main beach. We’ll break for lunch around 1pm and then head off to West End Playground at 2.30pm. We’ll be painting the walls and stencilling flowers on the perimeter of the playgrounds. Lots of helpers wanted for this and, we can promise you, lots of fun will be had!
On Sunday, the main project will be the painting of the Boat Quay and some planting of used lobster pots to decorate the quay. Anything that didn’t quite get finished on Saturday will also be completed.
Over the course of the weekend, any residential groups that have formed to join in the Spring Clean will also be out and about. The Bundoran Tidy Towns Group will be support these groups with bags, gloves, bibs and a voucher for clean-up items from BMG worth €125 on application to Bundoran Tidy Towns Group, supported by SuperValu Bundoran and Bundoran Town Council.
Two main components of the Weekend Challenge are art projects with Tara McGuinness and Eoin O’Connor, who will be creating an iconic montage on the shop fronts at the Summerhill apartments, and Gavin McCrea giving a seascape art makeover with a twist to the house next to Rougey Lodge.
This is the Weekend Challenge to Bundoran so let’s get this done! If you can spare an hour or more to help with the clean-ups or wall painting join in at any point of the weekend to physically help please wear painting clothes and just turn up. Could you sing us a song while we work or just come out and support us? All ages welcome as long as children are accompanied by a responsible adult. We’ll find a job for everyone. There’s a rumour going that there may be free ice cream, as well!
Everyone is asked to gather at 11 am outside SuperValu Bundoran on Saturday and Sunday. As far as is possible, volunteers will be provided with equipment. If you can bring your own bibs and gloves, all the better.
This is not specific to Bundoran Tidy Towns Group but if you can help with something specific please contact us email@example.com or 087 223 7691 or through Facebook at Bundoran Tidy Towns.
Thanks already to Cosgrove’s SuperValu, Bundoran Town Council, DecorZone, Bundoran, Brian Gavigan, Cormac McGurran and Erne Enterprise. A little bit of help from everyone goes a long, long way!
