The school community of Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí, together with selected representative pupils and staff from Saint Francis N.S,, Scoil Aodh Rua agus Nuala and the Glebe National school will join together to perform the annual ”Commemorative Walk of Tears” famine walk in Donegal Town at 9.30am on Friday next, May 25.

The Mayor of Donegal Town, Tom Conaghan will welcome the assembled pupils, staff and other members of the community who make this annual walk from the Diamond to the Famine graveyard to remember the people who perished during the famine and are buried in the sole mass grave of souls who perished in the local work house.

Each year, the participants remember the generosity of the Choctaw nation of Oklahoma who in 1847 gathered $170 dollars from their meagre resources and sent it across the ocean to the famine stricken island of Ireland. This year, the local community who participate will celebrate the generosity of the Choctaw nation by collecting donations in aid of Unicef. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
