The eight annual Denis McSharry Memorial Cup fishing competition was was very successfully promoted on Lough Melvin by the Rossinver Melvin Angling Club on Saturday, June 21.

The eight annual Denis McSharry Memorial Cup fishing competition was was very successfully promoted on Lough Melvin by the Rossinver Melvin Angling Club on Saturday, June 21.

The competition was well supported with eighty-two anglers and forty-one boats from all over Ireland taking part. Fishing conditions were good but the fishing was hard going with only twenty-nine anglers weighing in with a total of forty-two fish.

The popular Rossinver angling event was won by Patsy Treacy who ended up with three fish weighing 2.11kgs. Patsy received the Denis McSharry Memorial Cup, €500 in prize money and the Galway Crystal trophy for his day’s achievement on Lough Melvin.

Second place was taken by Francie White who caught three fish weighing 2.08kgs while John Burke was third catching three fish also that weighed 2.06kgs. Meanwhile the Rossinver event’s top twelve anglers took home prize money to the value of €2,500.

The competition for the Sonaghan trout only was won by Eddie Hart with a catch of 1.06kgs. The Rossinver Melvin Angling Club Committee would like to thank everyone that took part in a very enjoyable event on Mid-Summer Day 2014.
